Scott Peterson's sister says he is a 'sociopath' who should stay in prison

Scott Peterson's sister described him as a sociopath on Thursday as he had his retrial for killing his pregnant wife delayed until April.

Peterson, 48, was convicted of murdering his wife Laci and and their unborn child in 2004 and was sentenced to death.

Prosecutors said he wanted to escape married life and did not want the responsibility of becoming a father, so allegedly killed the pair and tossed them off his boat in the San Francisco Bay.

In November, the California Supreme Court unanimously overturned his death sentence, saying the judge in the case improperly dismissed and selected jurors.

Now, the sentencing phrase of his trial will be held again and his attorneys are pushing for a whole new retrial to exonerate him.

On Thursday, he appeared briefly at a Zoom hearing. The case has now been postponed until April.

Peterson has always denied killing his wife and their unborn son, who they planned to call Connor.

Laci disappeared aged 27 on Christmas Eve in 2002. She was eight months pregnant with the couple's son and they had been married for five years.

Days after she vanished, her mutilated body washed up on the shore of the San Francisco Bay.

Prosecutors claimed that Scott killed her in their home then dumped her body - and that of the baby she was carrying - in the water.

He has always maintained his innocence. Some of his relatives, like his brother's wife, support him.

One said in November when his sentence was overturned: 'We still need justice for Laci, Connor and Scott.

'We don't have justice for Laci with Scott on death row, because Scott is innocent.'
